Hey! Here at Candle Pin Club, we love supporting other girls and with March 8th being International Women's Day, we thought we would interview some of our favourite enamel pin wearing, positive bloggers throughout the month of March.
Today we speak to Gem from Gems Up North.
1: Can you tell our readers about yourself and your blog?
Gem: I’m Gem from Greater Manchester, I started my blog around 3-4 years ago now. You’ll find a mix of posts, topics and interests including beauty, fashion, lifestyle and events. The all-rounder blogger as some might say :)
2: Describe how did you first get into blogging?
Gem: Back in university I started my blog thinking it would support my fashion studies but it soon turned into more beauty-focused at the time. I re-branded 18 months after that and now we have GemsUpNorth.
Gem with our PLUM Soy Wax Candle with Enamel Pin.
3: Who would you say is your number one fashion inspiration?
Gem: I wouldn’t say I have a fashion icon, I like to take inspiration from social media, events and the high street. My style is very mixed but still shouts me but I pretty much wear what I want.
4: What are some of your current fashion obsessions?
Gem: Leopard print! Tartan! Prints! The high street is full of them at the moment. Throw a little grunge in there and we’ve got it!
5: Favourite Candle Scent?
Gem: Not to be a plain Jane but I love Vanilla scented candles.
6: Coffee or Tea?
Gem: None I don’t drink either. I may have a hot chocolate occasionally though :)
7: Heels or Flats?
Gem: Definitely flats, I’m all about the comfort. If it’s a heal, it’s a chunky one or platform.
8: 90s Grunge or 60s Glam?
Gem: 90s Grunge every day!
9: Favourite 90s TV show?
I was growing up in the 90s so loved Goosebumps and Are you Afraid of the Dark but I’m a big fan of Friends and can watch it over and over.
10: What is your dream job?
Social Media Manager.
11: Name 3 reasons why you love enamel pins?
Enamel pins/badges have been something I’ve collected since in high school. My backpack/bags would be filled with them, mostly the button badges but then I would treat myself with enamel pins when I could.
As I got into the college the collection continued and has never stopped. I love how expressive pins have gone now and that you can pretty much get anything on a pin. People always ask me about my pins on my faux-leather jacket too. I’d love to design my pins one day!
12: One thing you can’t leave home without?
Most likely my phone, haha!
13: Favourite social media platform?
Instagram wins for me but Twitter is a close second for engaging with people
14: Favourite band:
My all-time favourite band is ‘Theory of a Deadman’. I will always have a love for Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Skindred, Die Antwoord, My Chemical Romance, Shinedown and Bowling For Soup.
15: Favourite film:
Now, this is tough one... there’s the obvious like Mean Girls, Edward Scissorhands and Batman but I’d say Limitless is such a good story, has amazing cinematography and Bradley Cooper ;)
16: Favourite way to relax:
I enjoy listening to music, binge watching Netflix or reading a book.
17: Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn?
18: How many tattoos do you have?
20 and I’m sure more to come :)
19: Favourite Quote?
“I knew who I was this morning but I’ve changed a few times since then” Alice (Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland)
20: What is one thing your readers would be surprised to hear?
I didn’t go to my first gig until I was 22 years old.
